As you know there was a war, and of those that came back they weren't always... as they used to be. It's not as many as television and movies say there are, but enough that as early as the first world war they had a name for it.
However I'm no doctor, and to diagnose someone would be irresponsible, unless you just want to know the signs.
It depends on what caused it. But it could be anything that reminds them of what they went through. When something fits that pattern they may panic, to say the least. They may also be unable to sleep from the nightmares, or be on guard, or even change how they view the relationships they had. Lashing out isn't uncommon, neither is depression, and some may simply be unable to focus on things they used to enjoy.
